Sometimes It’s the Little Things That Tell You the Most

Today I opened the fridge and found food that expired months ago.

Six months.

It’s not dramatic. No emergency. No crisis.

Just one of those quiet moments that lands heavy anyway.

Because it tells you something has shifted.

When someone you love is aging, or dealing with cognitive changes, it’s often not the big things that show up first. It’s the small ones. The things that used to be automatic. The things no one thinks to check.

And suddenly you’re the one checking dates.

Noticing patterns.

Carrying concern that doesn’t have a clear place to go.

Caregiving isn’t always hands-on or constant. Sometimes it’s just this — noticing, worrying, adjusting, and wishing it were easier for everyone involved.

If you’re navigating moments like this, you’re not overreacting.

You’re paying attention.

And that matters.
